Actress Natalie Portman has been on our screens since she was just 13 years old. Starting out in the international hit Léon, in which she portrayed a young girl named Mathilda who is taken in by a hitman after her family has been murdered.
Since then she has gone on to star in many well known movies including some of the extremely popular Star Wars series. Originally she was in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and chose to skip the premier so she could study. She was was also a cast member in the following prequels, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
While filming Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, released in 2000, Natalie was also studying at Harvard University for a B.A. degree in psychology. She attended the set and filmed during the long summer break. She did the same thing when filming Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
During her time at the University, Natalie is quoted as saying "I don't care if college ruins my career, I'd rather be smart than a movie star." While there, she was the assistant to Alan Dershowitz who is best known for being an appellate adviser to O.J. Simpson's defence team during his murder trial.
In more recent years, Natalie has won a variety of awards including a BAFTA, Boston Society of Film Critics Award, Broadcast Film Critics Association Award, and an Academy Award. All of which were for "Best Actress" in the film Black Swan.
Natalie has been a campaigner for animal rights for the majority of her life, and has been always been a vegetarian. She became a vegan in 2009. As a child she joined an environmental song and dance troupe known as World Patrol Kids who would focus on environmental issues. She has also spent a lot of her time supporting anti-poverty groups across the world.
